According to the discovery of wise man William James, which is he noticed that humans beings can alter their lives by altering the attitudes of their minds! I find this quite profound because in m the short time I have lived, I have seen people, highly skilled and intelligent individuals with little or nothing to show for it due to the image their attitudes have painted on potential employers or business partners which has in turn robbed them of the reward for their diligence.

If you’ve been ever this book or from some other books, you would notice that a point came at the life of the author called The Moment of Epiphany. This is simply defined as a point a person gets to in life where everything begins to makes sense! Where he could see why he was doing what he was doing , the point he came to when he could connect the dots and see points for iterations & corrections.

His moment came when he realized the effect that the quality of his thoughts has on his life.

A lot of people have found ourselves in positions where we can’t say we enjoy what we do but we are doing it probably because that’s what we studied in school or it was the trendy thing when we did entrance exam into college/University. According to research, doing what you don’t love naturally develops an attitude towards the work stemming from the fact that it is not borne out of our natural abilities and capabilities.

The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind. — William James

We can all in one way or the other try to say “Oh no, my attitude is good, my friends like me” and all that but reading this book made me realize aspects of my life where I didn’t access myself honestly enough.Check out the short assessment the author gave an assessment format of checking if you really have a positive attitude or negative attitude;

  • The person with the negative attitude thinks “I CAN’T.”
  • The person with the positive attitude thinks “I CAN.”
  • The person with the negative attitude dwells on problems.
  • The person with the positive attitude concentrates on solutions.
  • The person with the negative attitude finds fault with others.
  • The person with the positive attitude looks for the good in others.
  • The person with the negative attitude focuses on what’s missing.
  • The person with the positive attitude counts his or her blessings.
  • The person with the negative attitude sees limitations.
  • The person with the positive attitude sees possibilities.

And according to an interesting quote, “If you say you can or you say you can’t, either ways, you are right!” and what I would add is “– Your different results will show the difference”

Furthermore, a common truth according to the book is everyone starts with a good attitude but overtime, from experience I have seen good people, really good people with good hearts start changing and finding themselves doing things they don’t want to do, some have developed wrong attitudes due to their relationships, communications, experiences, e.t.c all through the avenue of the mind.

“You can’t always control circumstances, but you can control your own thoughts.”Charles Popplestone

Attitude is everything by Jeff Keller

This is largely because your thoughts can be called your life builder because whatever you think over time will eventually become your reality mostly because according to proven researches on prevalent thoughts and it’s outcomes, we act in the direction of our most prevalent thoughts which enforces the fulfillment of that thought.

One thing to note is “Your attitude is your window to the world and the more you maintain it, the better your experiences”

“Without a positive attitude, you can’t activate the other principles.
Your success in life begins and ends with your attitude because It’s only when you clean your attitude window that the other success principles can shine through. If your window is smudged, only a fraction of the light of these principles can get through. Your success is limited, or even blocked.
But when you learn to keep your attitude window clear, the light comes pouring in and you can use these empowering principles to earn more money, have more satisfying relationships, increase your spiritual awareness and reach your full potential.
When you combine a positive attitude with the other success principles, you become unstoppable!” – Jeff Keller

Another interesting and very enlightening topic from the book is “GET OUT THERE AND FAIL”.
Henry Ford, a man that is widely agreed to be the pioneer of car ownership for an average individual, says “Failure is the only opportunity to more intelligently begin again”.

In this book, the Author, Jeff, narrated the ordeal of a child learning how to ride a bicycle, how he despite the setbacks and let downs, still rises again and gets back on the bicycle until he becomes a bicycle ninja. Now let’s compare the attitude of an adult trying to learn a new program or a new skill, he gets frustrated easily when he doesn’t understand it or when it’s not yielding as much money as it should.

"Success is going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.
— Winston Churchill "

In chapter 10, titled Confront Your Fear and Grow, the author admonished that if we ever get to a point where we take out eyes of the goal and instead focus on what people might be saying about us, we will be doing ourselves a great disservice.

A lot of successful people all over the world have come to this understanding that failure is a part of success, note: failure might not be something as big as it’s in your mind but we have to recognize that at some point we would have to come to that point where we view the success journey as the one with failure in its package.

“The greatest mistake a person can make is to avoid making one – Elbert Hubbard”

A notable example of someone who is successful even with his failures is the legendary basketball player – Kobe Bryant, who played a match at age 10 with people of his age group and didn’t score a single goal all throughout the match but now even after his life, Kobe Bryant is celebrated because he scores 60 goals in a single match and has learnt to grow from the ground up.

Do you see why Failure is highly influential and a determinant to success. Micheal Jordan is successful because he was ready to try all he could so just half of his throws scored, know as the All Time best basketball player but has his shooting accuracy as 50% meaning that half of the scores he threw didn’t enter the net. Change your attitude about failure and I would see you at the top.

I hope you learnt, one or two things reading this book review, the book has blessed me so much and I’m sure it would do the same for you.
